10 Monsoon Maintenance Tips For Your Motorbike

With the monsoon being in full swing, it is high time to know all about maintaining your motorbike to keep it running in a great condition. This is the time of the year when there are some riding challenges on the waterlogged and slippery roads. The chances of breakdown also go up and you may need to buy bike spare parts once or more during the season. Regular checks and maintenance are the best way to overcome these problems. Let's check out some easy monsoon maintenance tips for your motorbike.

1. Use an anti-rust protection product
This is the season when the bike parts get prone to rust because of the continuous exposure to moisture. Even though bikes have rust-resistant bodies, the main metal frames are particularly susceptible. Application of an anti-rust protection product on the metal is recommended to keep it rust-proof.

2. Oil the chains, levers, and hinges

Besides the bike body, its chains, levers, and hinges can also rust due to the moisture in the atmosphere. Keeping these parts well oiled to safeguard them and keep them in a good condition. The battery terminals should also be greased regularly during monsoons. Replace the damaged parts with genuine spare parts when there is a need.

3. Get regular servicing for the brakes
The braking system of the bike should be on top of performance during monsoons because even slightest flaw can cause skidding on the wet roads. Ensure that the brakes are well maintained by getting regular servicing from a professional mechanic. Clean the brakes and also check the brake oil on a regular basis.

4. Check and maintain the bike tyres
Bike tyres also need to maintain a proper grip on the wet and waterlogged roads to ensure safe rides during the rainy season. A change of tyres is recommended if they appear to be balding or the tyre treads are less than 2-3 mm deep. An optimal tyre pressure is needed to give the motorbike a proper grip.

5. Keep the headlights in a good condition
On-road visibility is another concern for bikers during the rainy season. Therefore, it becomes essential to keep the headlights in a good condition during this time of the year. Put reflective stickers on the bike so that it is easily visible to the others on the road.

6. Clean the air-filter more frequently
The bike's air filter is more likely to get clogged during this time of the year because of the high moisture content in the atmosphere. This can result in problems of air passage through the filter and cause stalling or jerking of the bike on acceleration, make it a routine to clean the air filter regularly to avoid such problems.

Following these maintenance tips can alleviate a majority of problems with your motorbike during the rainy season. You may require to replace the spare parts of the bike more frequently and this is something that you should not cringe at. Besides the care and maintenance routine, park the bike in covered parking spots and use a waterproof rain cover overnight for added protection against the rain.
